HISTORICALLY SPEAKING by Susan Swanton
“WANTED: VOLUNTEER DEDUPPER!”
“Before we can consider any of the 78 records you would like to donate to the Great 78 Digital Project” said Lisa in her email to me, “you need to check your list of 78s against our list of already digitized 78s. We call this process ‘dedupping’.”
“Okay” I replied, “I will see if we can recruit a volunteer willing to check our list of 100 78s against your database and get back to you.”
Background: last year the Gates Historical Society was given a wonderful collection of mostly 1930’s Italian pop music on 78 rpm. They came with a beautiful victrola now on display in the Hinchey Homestead’s middle parlor. But 102 78s are more than we can display so to avoid storing them, we would like to regift them to the Great 78 Digital Project, especially since we think many of the recordings may be unique.
If you have a computer with internet access and are willing to search our 25 page list at home, let us know at gateshistoricalsociety@gmail.com . I will give you the link to the 78 database and let you know how to mark the list so we only send the 78s the Project can use. Thank you so much for considering donating your time and skill!
