HISTORICALLY SPEAKING by Susan Swanton
PROVIDING ACCESS FOR ALL TO THE HINCHEY HOMESTEAD
‘Are you handicapped accessible?’ asked the woman when she called to request information on Holly Days. The volunteer who answered ‘No, but if you can get up the steps, we have a scrapbook that will show you the other floors.’
The Society Board has architecturally designed plans for a handicapped lift which with porch railings would make the Hinchey Homestead accessible to the handicapped. The Society’s annual fundraiser ‘Gift from the Heart’ has been seeking donations for the past few years in order to add this much needed service for potential visitors. A substantial amount of funds has been raised for this project but we are still short money to make this happen.
Considering making a ‘Gift from the Heart’ so all can visit ‘the best-preserved Victorian house in Monroe County’ to quote Cynthia Howk, retired, Landmark Society of Western New York!
